"Pepper"
2002 bay Thoroughbred mare

"Pepper" is a homebred filly from our proven sire, BEY OF TUNIS, who has already produced multiple GI stakes winners so far in SIM. BEY OF TUNIS is sired by GONE WEST, one of the best known stud sons of MR. PROSPECTOR who is known for producing stakes winners and is especially renowned as a broodmare sire. His dam, PRIMAL FORCE, is the only mare to foal two separate Breeders Cup winners and was named broodmare of the year for 2000.
Pepper's dam, MINTIFUL, is an incredible mare that was a successful racehorse in her younger years, even having a win in the Triple Tiara race series, winning the Breeders Cup Juvenile, and leading the Breeder's Cup Classic by several lengths! She is sired by KEY TO THE MINT, who was Champion 3 YO Male in 1972, having won several G1 races.
Pepper has no race record prior to her 3 year old career because she was not bred until 2006 RL. It is assumed that her records are 'lost', as it's not her fault she wasn't raced! We wanted to get some older racers (and future broods) in our racing string, and thus Pepper was bred.
Pepper is offered for sale only because her heart doesn't seem to be in racing so much as we would like. We also own her dam & sire, as well as several half-siblings through her sire, so we're not really in need of her lines in our herd anyway. We are not actively marketing her as a (future) race broodmare due to her lackluster race record, but she may be used in that manner if the new owner desires. Who knows; maybe Pepper will thrive under a new race trainer/owner and begin to throw her heart into it and prove us all wrong.
UPDATE 5/31/06: Pepper will continue to race until sold. She is of an age in which several of her peers have been retired. She is running at the allowance level with relatively good success; she is always in the upper half of the field thus far. However, we feel that Pepper would be much more successful in sporthorse disciplines such as eventing or showjumping, or perhaps as a steeplechaser. She has speed but not the desire to run on the flat; perhaps jumps would pique her interest enough to make her want to run. Pepper also seems to be a more timid type of mare, leading us to believe she would do best in a home where she has more individual attention - a single owner to lavish plenty of time and attention on her that a large farm simply cannot offer despite its best efforts.
